___________________________________________ FOR THE LOVE OF PETE The news spread fast on Sideways Pier that Captain Pete had disappeared They said his bark had run aground and his crew could not be found He’d gone a sailing in pursuit of guns and rum and Spanish loot but anything can happen on the deep, deep blue sea Now Sally Doogan loved that man despite his tendency to cheat, love of drink, rotten temper, stinky feet, missing teeth And though she’d never been to sea she swore to rescue Pete. She bought a sloop and named it Belle and bid her simple life farewell as anything can happen on the deep, deep blue sea Their first day out a storm befell upon that poor ship Belle The second day they lost their way in fog and heavy swells Undeterred they spent the third mending line and sail On the fourth they made some progress till they bumped into that whale The giant creature slapped his flukes and took a look around And as he dove beneath their hull he sang a lovely sound Every hand scanned the sea concerned of his return That’s when they saw the pirate ships coming up astern Oh for the love, oh for the love Oh for the love, oh for the love Those scoundrels sought to seize Sal’s sloop but in their midst there came a whoosh the whale exhaled, the rogues were spooked, their leader begged a truce So Sally commandeered their fleet replete with gold to Port Royal There’s danger but there’s booty on the deep, deep blue sea On shore the captain Sally spied two rum-soaked wenches by his side And in a flash she saw the truth She’d rather be a mariner than married to that brute! So drink up Hearties, rest a spell for now we’re rich with tales to tell Tomorrow we’ll be back upon the deep, deep blue sea ____________________________________________

Navigate 03:22
_________________________________________ NAVIGATE Whenever you’re blown off course by winds of sudden change that leave you lost alone in waters deep and strange Don’t panic, don’t dismay It happens now and then With a little ingenuity you can find your way again Take a clue from those seafarers They know how to set a course To see where they are, they look at the stars and count those log line knots That’s right they contemplate, cogitate, calculate, anticipate triangulate, configurate, navigate, yes navigate Don’t panic, don’t dismay You can find your way again. To see where you are take a look at the stars and count those log line knots. You’ve got to contemplate, cogitate, calculate, anticipate triangulate, configurate, navigate, yes navigate _________________________________________

____________________________________________ HIGH SEAS LAMENT If I could live my life at sea I’d spend my days in mutiny Rising up when ‘ere I pleased No land or lord could hinder me as I make way across the seas free from tyranny and toil I’d cast away both church and crown I’d let their lies and finery drown the thieves have cost this world its peace The ways of men are wearisome Too many heed the pipe and drum and war on for the rich and royal Away, away, away she goes away, away far from these woes the crowded quay slips from view the sooty sky slowly clears to blue I search for treasures buried deep beneath the waves of restless sleep I plunder every hope I find And when my spirit fills with ease I’ll know I’ve won my liberty If I could live my life at sea Away, away, away she goes away, away far from these woes A salty mist fills the wind the ocean’s edge stretches wide ahead ___________________________________________

Rough Music 04:06
________________________________________ ROUGH MUSIC I’m a roving man, I ply the waves from Bristol to Benin from Boston Harbour to Barbados and back again Side by side I sail and fight with brave and brazen men Our bond is born of circumstance and the quest for rich fortune I owe the scratches on my back to a captain drunk with power His wrath bled all of loyalty and set the crew to sour We bade our time with firm resolve to carry out the plot Then one dark night every hand took to rolling shot Ay O Ay O Heed these sounds of righteous discontent Ay O Ay O We shall have proper recompense Of all the women I have known I’m true to only one To her I’ll bring these silver coins and silks of dark crimson I’m a roving man, I ply the waves from Bristol to Benin from Boston Harbour to Barbados and back again ____________________________________________

Fair Winds 04:45
____________________________________________ FAIR WINDS As the hours pass on a shadowy night her thoughts drift towards the ocean where moonlight draws a silvery sword across her lonely heart He sailed away one wintery morn to work along the southern coast They’d sworn their love with a fiery kiss And the promises all lovers make I will return I will come back to you I will return to hold you in my arms May a fair wind blow to speed your way and bring you back to me safely, back to me A year went by as every year had on that quiet palm tree bay Fair winds blew as she ran to the shore the day his ship came in _________________________________________

The Mad Maggies are musicians from Montreal, Quebec and the San Francisco Bay Area who play rowdy ska rock folk fusion with a dash of hot pepper and a swig of slivovitz -- they kick up some dust.
