Cold Hearts Abound

from Shake Those Bones by the Mad Maggies

Where ‘ere I go
There’s guile and deceit
I keep a wary eye
on everyone I meet
So often profit captivates
lucre has its charms
for which many a sordid rake
will gladly do one harm

I cannae trust a soul
for most will lie and cheat
even those I know
who seem kindly and sweet
Countless craven reprobates
of every stripe and shade
are pleased to take and take and take
by pistol point or blade

Cold, cold hearts abound
as far as I can see
The coldest heart I found
was the love who betrayed me
